Siliguri, 08th July: 8 organizations under the Bangabhanga Protirod Mancha raised their voices against the demand for making North Bengal a separate state.
Speaking at a press conference at the Siliguri Journalists Club on Thursday, Sanjeev Chakraborty, convener of the Bangabhanga Protirod Mancha, said that those who want North Bengal as a separate state should resign from the ministry. He further said that if North Bengal becomes a separate state, it will lose its importance. If it becomes a union territory, the common people of the state will be deprived of democratic rights. Hence, they will stage continuous movement in the coming days.
Incidentally, John Barla, a BJP MP from Alipurduar, recently demanded that North Bengal be made a separate state. His statement was also supported by BJP MLA Shikha Chatterjee. Following this, various political parties and organizations are protesting against it.
