Siliguri, 11th December: Various developmental works including the cleaning of sewers are held pending in the Balmiki Basti area under B block of Siliguri’s Suryasen Colony. Following this, the locals expressed outrage.
Reportedly, the said area is very populated and the locals accused political parties of only using them a vote bank during the polls. They further alleged that despite providing various assurances during the elections, the leaders and ministers have failed to keep their promises.
According to the locals, upon approaching the Ward No. 33 coordinator regarding various issues, they were told that the Balmiki Basti falls under Ward No. 34. On the other hand, upon approaching Ward No. 34 coordinator, the locals were told the other way around.
Due to this confusion, several works are being affected. Several residents are also falling sick due to rise in pollution level in the area.
Meanwhile, Ward No. 34 coordinator Gulap Roy assured to look into the matter and maintained to report the issue to the borough office soon.
