Siliguri, 31st May: An astrologer, Rahmat Ali alias Mohammad Hashim from Uttar Dinajpur, was arrested by the Bagdogra police on charges of raping a young woman.
According to the information, Rahmat Ali assured to solve the woman’s problems and in return demanded a large amount of cash from her. He allegedly called the victim to his house in the Shanti Nagar area of Panjipara under Uttar Dinajpur district, where he drugged her with sleeping pills and sexually assaulted her.
The victim accused Rahmat Ali of raping her multiple times from April 18-26 after drugging her with sleeping pills and intoxicants. It has also been alleged that he stole her gold chain, ring, and earrings.
When she shared the entire episode with her family members, a written complaint was lodged on behalf of her family, on May 09.
Based on the complaint, the Bagdogra police launched investigations and arrested the accused from Panjipara on Sunday night. The “Dhongi Baba” was produced at the Siliguri court today.
