Bagdogra Forest Department officials seized a huge quantity of timber before smuggling

Bagdogra, 09th February: The Bagdogra forest department officials successfully recovered a huge quantity of logs of Burmese teak wood concealed in bamboo-laden containers before being smuggled.


According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the forest officials raided a petrol pump on the side of the national highway near the Bengai Jote area of Naxalbari. Subsequently, timber logs worth Rs 30 lakh rupees were recovered.

In this regard, Wangtu Lama, a beat officer of the forest department, stated that the container loaded with valuable wood was seized from the side of the national highway. The wood was reportedly being smuggled from Assam to Bihar. At present, the forest officials are further investigating the entire incident.
