Siliguri, 12th August: Bengal Safari Park convened a rally on the occasion of World Elephant Day to raise awareness about the importance of elephant conservation.
In North Bengal, there have been frequent reports of elephant deaths and elephant-human clashes. Thus, the rally served the purpose to spread awareness on the minimization of conflicts between humans and elephants.
On Saturday, two well-known Kumki elephants of the Bengal Safari Park, Lakshmi and Urmila, participated in the awareness rally along with school students who carried placards. It is to be noted that both elephants are highly valued in the park and were worshipped on this significant day.
