Siliguri, 04th February: The atmosphere boiled up at the land port premises adjacent to NJP over staff recruitment.
Reportedly, the INTTUC workers, on Thursday, staged a protest in front of the land port gate demanding recruitment of local workers. They alleged that the port authorities use other vehicles and have appointed workers from other areas. As no step was taken despite notifying the management, the INTTUC staged a protest today.
Following this, a scuffle broke out between the two parties. The port was also allegedly vandalized. As the chaos escalated, the security personnel of the land port fired a few rounds in the air to bring the situation under control.
Later, a large police force of the NJP police station reached the spot and arrested several people in connection to the incident.
