Rajganj, 20th April: The 55th Ashtami Snan (bath) Mela has been cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19 at Ambari in Rajganj. Every year a seven-day fair is organized by the local Gangapuja committee in the Karatoya River.
Reportedly, this year, Ashtami Snan was held but the fair has been cancelled. On behalf of the committee, Bablu Roy said that every year more than eight lakh people gather at the Ashtami Snan and Mela. However, last year, none of the events were held due to the lockdown, and this year also, only the Ashtami Snan has been organized.
A pilgrim from Shantinagar in Siliguri said that he comes every year to participate in the Ashtami Snan. He stated that the number of visitors has significantly decreased as compared to the previous years.
