Siliguri, 12th July: Siliguri’s Ashok Nagar area under Ward No. 31 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has been waterlogged following incessant rains. As per sources, the Meteorological Department has predicted the prevalence of heavy rainfall in several areas of the region. Since Wednesday morning, heavy rainfall has been witnessed in 5 districts of North Bengal including the hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
According to reports, the locals of the Ashok Nagar area of Siliguri are facing difficulty in their daily commute due to the accumulation of water raising up to the knee. In addition, water has also entered the households of several residents. Notably, this situation prevailed in the area even in the past years.
In this regard, the SMC is in the process of preparing a permanent solution for the issue. The formulated plan is for the discharge of the accumulated water through an underground system into the river. Deputy Mayor of SMC Ranjan Sarkar revealed that the work is already in progress.
