Siliguri, 08th January: Siliguri MLA and Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya was seen on the streets of Siliguri since Wednesday morning to boost the Bharat Bandh called by the central trade unions. He attended the rallies taken out in support of the strike. At the same time, sitting in front of the party office Anil Biswas Bhavan, the Mayor took stock of the situation.
While speaking to the Siliguri Times, the Senior CPI(M) leader said that the strike had a wide impact. Everything from traffic to the shops was closed. “This is proof that people are supporting the strike with us, but in many places, the police are forcibly detaining supporters,” the Mayor was quoted saying.
