Siliguri, 20th February: Ashok Bhattacharya laid the foundation stone of a drinking water project in Ward No. 27 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
The programme was held at the land provided by Jyotsnamayee High School at a cost of around 40 lakh rupees from the MLA Development Fund. Wards 27 and 28 will benefit the most from this project.
School headmistress Shukla Das, BoA member Sharadindu Chakraborty, and many others were present at the programme.
Ashok Bhattacharya said that although a purified drinking water system is present in the city, it is unable to meet the demands of the people. When the drinking water system was first taken up by SMC, the population in Siliguri was 2 lakhs. However, the population now stands at 7 lakhs. Hence, such an initiative has been taken to meet the drinking water problems.
