Siliguri, 06th February: Ashok Bhattacharya, Chairman of the Board of Administrators of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation launched the construction work of the second cremation furnace at the Kiran Chandra Burning Ghat (Crematorium). The work has been initiated at a cost of 1 crore 10 lakh from the MP Development Fund.
During the event, Ashok Bhattacharya recalled the then Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who in early 1989 inaugurated the Kiran Chandra Burning Ghat when he was the chairman of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
Bhattacharya stated that the need for another cremation furnace rose due to the growing population in the city. He expressed happiness over the commencement of the construction work. He hoped for the work to be completed within a year.
