Siliguri, 23rd April: Amidst the second wave of COVID-19, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) leader Ashok Bhattacharya held a press conference at the party office in Hillcart Road, on Friday.
While addressing the media, Ashok Bhattacharya said that the second wave of the coronavirus has made the situation grim. However, the central and state governments are ignorant regarding COVID-19. He further demands Siliguri Municipal Corporation and panchayat elections to be held at the earliest as the Mahakuma Parishad and Panchayat areas including Siliguri are leaderless.
Bhattacharya stated that the party is not in government but is always available for the people in times of need. Ashok Bhattacharya demanded that the government should take over Siliguri’s private hospital for COVID treatments and the infrastructure of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital should be further improved. He further appealed for the availability of more vaccines and oxygen. Apart from this, he also asked the health workers to conduct a survey and the houses where the COVID patients are quarantining should be sanitized.
