Siliguri, 18th September: The COVID-19 pandemic and the nation-wide lockdown imposed in view of it has made a considerable impact on the economy of West Bengal as well as the entire country. However, the worst affected are the daily wagers, slum dwellers, small traders, road hawkers, and construction workers.
Reportedly, revenue collection of the municipal corporations, development of slums, and the activities of self-help groups have come to a standstill.
In this context, Ashok Bhattacharya, chairman of the BoA at Siliguri Municipal Corporation, stated that in this situation a financial package should be given to SMC immediately.
Besides, Bhattacharya sent a letter containing 11 point demands to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He also drew the attention of the Chief Minister regarding the gang rape and murder in two villages of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block.
He stated that the families are currently suffering from insecurity as the culprits have not been nabbed yet. He demanded immediate punishment of the culprits.
