Ashok Bhattacharya accuses State of financially depriving SMC amid pandemic

Siliguri, 10th August: Ashok Bhattacharya, Chairman of the BoA at Siliguri Municipal Corporation, accused the state government of financial deprivation amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He, therefore, demanded immediate financial package from the state government.

Due to the increasing number of coronavirus cases across the city, the hospitals are having a tough time managing the situation. On the other hand, SMC, along with the health department has stepped forward to tackle the situation.

During a press conference on Monday, Ashok Bhattacharya stated that the district administration has already given permission to convert Siliguri Indoor Stadium into a safe home. However, at present, SMC is bearing all the expenses in this regard. Besides, an additional allowance is also being provided to 2,000 workers in view of the pandemic.

He further stated that despite repeated appeals to the state government, no special financial assistance has been provided to them.
