Siliguri, 20th January: To promote road safety and traffic awareness, the Ashighar Sub Traffic Guard of Siliguri Metropolitan Police organised a special awareness programme for students of a private school in Siliguri.
Traffic ACP Anirban Majumdar was present as the chief speaker at the programme. Ashighar Sub Traffic Guard OC Tanay Sarkar, other police officials and members of the school administration were also in attendance.
The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among school students about road safety. Students were informed in detail about the dos and don’ts while using roads. Emphasis was laid on the mandatory use of helmets while riding two-wheelers, strict adherence to traffic signals and rules, and maintaining safe driving speeds.
Officials from the traffic department stated that such awareness initiatives are crucial in view of the rising number of road accidents in the Eastern Bypass area. They expressed the view that educating students about traffic rules from an early age can significantly reduce the risk of accidents in the future.
