Sikkim 09th October: The rescue of stranded tourists through airlift has finally commenced following five days of the Sikkim disaster. It has to be noted that, tourists are stranded in various locations including Lachen due to the occurrence of the disastrous flash flood in the Teesta River.
As a result of the incident, connections were cut off with both Lachen and Chungthang resulting in several tourists being stranded in Lachen. Although helicopters were put into force for the rescue of tourists, unfavorable weather conditions delayed the operation.
According to reports, on Monday morning, as the weather cleared in North Sikkim, the rescue operations commenced and tourists were airlifted. Army helicopter took a flight from Pakyong, Sikkim. Additionally, helicopter surveillance for assessing the situation in Lachung and Chungthang, including providing relief materials has also commenced.
Army helicopter carrying tourists from Lachen several landed at Ringhim Helipad. Rescue operation also began at the Pakyong Airport. The army has also arranged accommodation for the tourists stranded in Lachen. In addition to medical treatments, the army has also made arrangements for the tourist to connect with their families over the phone.
