Anti Romeo Squads formed by Siliguri Metropolitan Police to keep a check amid Durga Puja

Siliguri, 23rd October: Two “Anti Romeo Squad” teams have been formed on behalf of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police in view of Durga Puja.

The decision comes considering the crowd gathering during the pujas where women and young females often fall prey to eve-teasing and harassment.

D.C.P. Zone-II (West) Kunwar Bhushan Singh maintained that the Anti-Romeo squads have been formed for the protection of women and young girls amid the puja season. Reportedly, both teams will keep a close watch at the puja pandals and crowded areas. Also, a helpline number has been issued by the police if any kind of untoward incident occurs.

On the other hand, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has made extensive arrangements for the city’s security. Frequent monitoring with the help of sniffer dogs will also be carried out throughout the festival. The Siliguri Metropolitan Police is determined to stop all violence and disturbance from hindering the festive mood and enthusiasm of the common people.

At the same time, to keep the traffic normal, entry of heavy vehicles has been banned on the main roads of the city from 9 am to 9 pm.
