Anti-encroachment drive undertaken in Siliguri

Siliguri, 19th November: Authorities conducted an anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday in Kalahati Bazar, located in front of Siliguri police station. Illegal constructions were demolished during the operation.

As per reports, traders had set up makeshift arrangements and plastic coverings in front of shops to run their businesses, leading to frequent traffic jams in the area. Despite multiple warnings from the byabasayee samiti, the traders failed to comply. Consequently, all illegal constructions were removed during the drive.

Some traders expressed their grievances, claiming that the drive was carried out without prior notice and alleged that the byabasayee samiti did not do anything during the demolition.

On behalf of the byabasayee samiti, Madan Kumar Gupta stated that the traders were repeatedly informed about the illegal constructions on the road but did not heed the warnings. The administration took necessary action after becoming aware of the issue.

Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar affirmed that action would be taken against any illegal construction on government land.
