Anti-drug crackdown in Kharibari, three drug peddlers including father and son arrested

Kharibari, 19th January: As part of its zero-tolerance drive to make the region drug-free, the Darjeeling district police arrested three drug peddlers, including a father and his son, in Kharibari.


According to police sources, the operation was carried out late Sunday night at Colony More on the state highway under the jurisdiction of Kharibari police station’s Panitanki Outpost. During the operation, police intercepted a motorcycle and conducted a search, recovering 305 grams of brown sugar.

In connection with drug trafficking, three persons, including a minor, were arrested. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Sahid, his son Mohammad Samad, and another accused Umesh Roy. All three are residents of Kharibari.


Police stated that the estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 30 lakh. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time.

The arrested persons were produced before the Siliguri sub-divisional court on Monday. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the entire matter.
