Another accused arrested in elderly woman snatching case in Siliguri

Siliguri, 19th November: NJP police station has arrested another individual in connection with the snatching case involving an elderly woman in Jabravita, near Siliguri.


The incident occurred on Thursday evening when Saraswati Mandal, a resident of Thakur Nagar, was on her way to attend to some work. In the Jabravita area, four miscreants on a motorbike grabbed her, covered her face, and snatched her earrings, necklace, and ring before fleeing the scene. A police complaint was lodged immediately.

Following an investigation, undercover officers from NJP police station arrested Bishwajit Chowdhury, alias Bitla, from Ambikanagar. He was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday and taken into a seven-day remand.


On Monday, the police arrested another accused, Rupu Karmakar, from Ashighar. Gold ornaments stolen during the incident were recovered from his house in Purba Hatiadanga. The accused was sent to the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
