Darjeeling, 09th September: Ending all speculations, Anit Thapa, who was heading the second faction of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, announced the birth of a new political party, on Thursday.
Through a grand event at Darjeeling Gymkhana today, Anit Thapa launched his new party Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM). Apart from this, the party’s flag and its election symbol were also displayed. The party’s head office will be situated at Judge Bazar, Hill Cart Road, Darjeeling.
According to the party, the rectangular flag of the BGPM comprises three horizontal colours, Yellow at the top, Grey at the middle and Ruby Red at the bottom. The flag will be engraved in the middle with the rising sun at the top of the Himalayas, a blue coloured river running down the mountain, a tea leaf, a forest, and two Khukuri at the bottom holding all the symbols together. The yellow colour at the top symbolizes purity, sacrifice, humanity, auspiciousness and tolerance. The grey colour in the middle symbolizes neutrality, intellect, elegance and coolness. While the ruby red colour at the bottom symbolizes courage, bravery, liberty and social change.
Furthermore, it has been told that the BGPM will work in the interest of the people of the hills and would move forward following the intellectuals. Meanwhile, a huge number of people from the hills were very excited about the launching of the new party.
With the formation of this new party, it will be interesting to see which turn the politics of the hills will take? What will be its impact on the 24th Lok Sabha elections? All eyes are now on the political arena of the Darjeeling Hills.
