West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday, stated that 72 people have died in the state so far due to cyclone Amphan, of which 15 are from Kolkata. The storm left behind a trail of destruction by uprooting trees, destroying houses, and swamping low-lying areas of the state.

Addressing the media, the CM further declared a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the cyclone.

”I have never seen such a disaster before. I will ask PM to visit the state and see the situation, ” Banerjee added.

However, NDRF Chief SN Pradhan, earlier on Thursday, announced that a team of Union Home Ministry will visit the state to evaluate the damages done by the cyclone.
