Siliguri, 15th September: An alarming incident of eve-teasing and assault involving young women has surfaced in Siliguri. The event occurred at Mahananda Bridge No. 2 in Champasari, under the jurisdiction of Pradhan Nagar Police Station.
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 10 PM on Saturday when a group of friends, including several young women, were returning from a birthday party of a youth named Shubhankar in Gulma. The group had stopped at Mahananda Bridge No. 2 to take photographs when they were approached by a group of miscreants who began verbally harassing the young women.
Upon intervening to stop the harassment, the miscreants reportedly attacked Shubhankar and allegedly attacked the women as well. This incident has reignited debates on women’s safety, particularly in light of recent incidents in alignment with the R.G. Kar incident. The ongoing protests demanding improved safety measures for women have intensified questions about the security of women in public spaces in Siliguri.
In response to the incident, a formal complaint has been lodged at Pradhan Nagar Police Station. The police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint.
