Siliguri, 21st May: During Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to North Bengal, allegations have surfaced regarding the tearing of Trinamool Congress party flags and banners on various roads across Siliguri. In response, members of the Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress Education Cell lodged a written complaint at the Siliguri Police Station.
According to the complainants, the incident was allegedly carried out by workers and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In a related development, Siliguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh made comments about the Chief Minister during a press conference held on Tuesday. Trinamool leaders have labeled these remarks as indecent and have filed a separate complaint against the MLA at the police station.
The Trinamool Congress has urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly, including reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved. They have demanded strict action against the culprits and emphasized that such incidents should not be repeated. Trinamool further stated that the administration must ensure that, going forward, the flags or banners of any political party are not subjected to such acts of vandalism.
