Bagdogra, 27th December: A protest was held at Ranidanga Kalaram High School in Bagdogra over the collection of extra fees during school admissions. Students and members of the AIDSO organization participated in the demonstration.
It has been reported that instead of the government-mandated Rs 240, the school is reportedly charging Rs 400 to Rs 450 per student. The protest highlighted objections to the collection of additional fees in a government school.
Bishnu Pal, district co-vice president of AIDSO, warned that the protest would continue until the extra fees are withdrawn.
Meanwhile, the school’s headmaster, Prabir Nandi, stated that the additional amount is entirely optional and no student is being forced to pay.
He added that the management committee had discussed the matter with parents before deciding the fee structure. Provisions are also in place to ensure free education for students who cannot afford to pay due to financial constraints.
