Siliguri, 14th August: Following the tragic passing of Swapnadeep Kundu, a first-year student at Jadavpur University, the state’s educational landscape has been engulfed in turmoil. The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) led a rally today, culminating in a sit-in protest at Gate No. 2 of North Bengal University. Their demands encompass a thorough and expeditious investigation into Swapnadeep Kundu’s demise, stringent punitive actions against the perpetrators, improved security measures, the establishment of a fair and democratic atmosphere within all university campuses and hostels across the state.
Amidst the dharna protest, members of the AIDSO organization expressed their strong discontent with the prevailing state of the education system. Deep Shah, President of the AIDSO unit, articulated that despite the ongoing discord at North Bengal University, the students are constrained from voicing their concerns openly. A climate of muted suffering pervades their experiences. Shah emphasized the necessity for both the organization and the government to implement stringent regulations in response to this situation.
