Siliguri, 17th September: Agnimitra Paul, President of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha (women’s wing) visited Siliguri Mahananda Ghat on Wednesday morning and offered tarpan to her ancestors. Several BJP workers and activists were present with her.
Addressing the media, she stated that apart from the ancestors, the tarpan was offered to the 112 BJP workers and supporters who were killed by TMC workers.
Meanwhile, in response to her statement, State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb stated that anyone can offer tarpan and accused Paul of politicizing the ritual.
Besides, the minister also said that as per the report of the National Crime Bureau, political violence is much less in West Bengal. He stated that the number of murders or rapes is much lesser as compared to Uttar Pradesh.
