Siliguri, 22nd November: The phrase “Necessity is the mother of invention” has become a perfect fit for the people of Baniyakhari village. After the Balasan bridge was damaged, the village residents built a temporary bridge with iron pipes and plywood within four days.
It has been learned that traffic has come to a standstill after the Balasan Bridge was damaged. At present, no vehicles are allowed to ply. The ones travelling to Siliguri and Bagdogra have to cover a long distance of 10 to 12 km. Considering the said problems, the residents of Baniyakhari village built a 72 feet long and 5 feet wide bridge. A total of 22 iron pillars and 9 plywood sheets have been installed. The bridge has been opened for the movement of people from today. Two-wheelers, bicycles, and Toto are currently allowed to ply on the bridge.
Bablu Sen, a local, first came up with the idea of building such a bridge. After this, he with the help of some locals built a 72 feet long bridge in four days. A total of 75 thousand rupees have been spent on the construction of this bridge. People are very happy with the initiative taken.
