After pedal rickshaws, Siliguri Metropolitan Police impose restrictions on Totos

Siliguri, 11th March: To reduce traffic congestion in the city, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has been taking several initiatives, such as the removal of encroachment of footpaths by street vendors.


Likewise, earlier today, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police announced to restrict the plying of peddle rickshaws in S.F. Road, Hillcart Road, Bidhan Road, Burdwan Road, and other Asian highways from March 17.

In the new development, the department has now announced numerous strict restrictions on totos (E Rickshaw) plying in the city. The authorities have issued two sets of regulations which will be imposed to curb traffic congestion in the city.


(1) Restrictions on totos with immediate effect:

i) Totos will not be allowed to operate on Asian Highway and National Highway
ii) Totos without their registration number shall not be allowed to operate on main roads of Hill Cart Road (from Venus More), Sevoke Road, Burdwan Road (from Noukaghat More), Station Feeder Road, and Bidhan Road
iii) The sale or transfer of totos without any registration will be considered an offense. Any vendor found doing so will be penalized as per the law and their trade license will be liable to be canceled.

(2) Restrictions on totos from 21/04/2022 (After the completion of Higher Secondary exams)

i) Totos without any registration will not be allowed to ply anywhere in the Siliguri Police Commissionerate area.
ii) Totos with registration numbers shall only be allowed to ply in lanes and bylanes. However, their movement will be restricted on Hill Cart Road (from Venus More), Bidhan Road, Burdwan Road (from Noukaghat More), Sevoke Road and Station Feeder Road.
