Kalchini, 21st February: An adult leopard has been trapped in a cage set up by the forest department in Dalsingpara under the Kalchini block of the Alipurduar district.
As per reports, on Wednesday morning, the locals spotted the leopard trapped in a cage and alerted the forest department officials. Upon receiving the news, the forest personnel of Nilpara range arrived at the location, rescued the animal, and transported it to Jaldapada.
Meanwhile, a crowd gathered to get a glimpse of the leopard. In this regard, the locals stated the presence of several leopards in Dalsingpara Tea Estate, and goats and calves are attacked frequently.
Rupesh Moti, the beat officer of Nilpara range of the forest department, stated that due to the closure of Dalsingpara Tea Estate for a prolonged time, wild forests and bushes have grown which made the place favourable for animal hideouts.
