Siliguri, 26th January: The administration has refused to allow Rahul Gandhi to hold a gathering in Siliguri on January 28. In this regard, Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged that the government is being non-cooperative over minor reasons.
According to reports, the ongoing movement of the Congress party ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ has already entered West Bengal followed by its journey in Manipur. Significantly, the yatra was scheduled to arrive in Siliguri on January 28 where Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting. However, the administration has not provided a permit for the meeting.
On Friday, Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury expressed his disapproval regarding the matter after hoisting the flag in front of the party leaders and workers in Siliguri. Chowdhury stated that the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ played no part in political campaigning but was a pilgrimage to preserve the Constitution. The administration has already received the list of the districts for the yatra. Despite that, the administration is creating various obstacles to grant a permit for the meeting.
In response, Siliguri Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar stated that the public gathering could not be permitted owing to the Madrasah examinations.
