Gajoldoba, 22nd May: Following the tragic death of two youths in an elephant attack in Takimari, Gajoldoba, the administration convened an important meeting at the Gajoldoba Outpost to address safety concerns and provide support to the affected families.
The meeting was attended by Baikunthapur Forest Department DFO M Raja, Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, Bhorer Alo Police Station OC Sandeep Dutta, Rajganj Panchayat Samiti President Rupali Dey Sarkar, ADFO Rajiv Lama, Arindam Banerjee, other rangers, locals, and public representatives.
DFO M Raja announced that as per government guidelines, compensation of ₹5 lakh will be provided to each bereaved family, along with a government job for one eligible family member. Responding to local demands, he added that additional fencing would be installed in the area to prevent such incidents, and steps will be taken to form a Quick Response Team (QRT) for immediate action in case of future wildlife encounters.
Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy expressed deep sorrow over the loss and confirmed that detailed discussions had been held with forest officials to ensure prompt support for the families.
He also stated that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has been requested for repairing the road from Bhalobasha More to Takimari, which passes through forest land. The Forest Department has assured swift approval.
