ABVP stages indefinite ‘dharna’ over North Bengal University research scholar’s death

Siliguri, 24th May: North Bengal University has been embroiled in chaos for the past week following the suicide of a research scholar. On Friday, ABVP initiated an indefinite ‘dharna’ in front of the administrative building, demanding justice and punishment for the accused professor.


Reports indicate that ABVP Central Committee member Shubhabrata Adhikari, alongside the family of the deceased, led the protest, calling for the removal, departmental inquiry, and arrest of Professor Siddharth Shankar Laha.

Adhikari mentioned police failure to arrest the accused and further stated that a letter has been sent to the governor. Additionally, a complaint will be lodged with the National Commission for Women. The deceased scholar’s mother has also demanded severe punishment for the accused professor.
