Abducted man rescued in Siliguri, two suspects arrested

Siliguri, 26th December: Police from Panitanki Outpost have busted an abduction case in Siliguri, where individuals lured people under false pretenses and demanded lakhs of rupees in ransom. Within a few hours, the abducted person was safely rescued and two suspects were arrested.


According to reports, a complaint was filed by Nupur Saha regarding the abduction of her husband, Umesh Kumar Sahni, a resident of Naxalbari. The abductors demanded a ransom of ₹5 lakh for his release. Acting swiftly, the police traced the call made to demand the ransom and located the abducted person. Umesh Kumar Sahni was rescued late Wednesday night from an isolated and vacant building near Payal Cinema Hall.

During the operation, the police arrested two accused identified as Sudip Mandal of Dabgram in Ward No. 23 and Mrinal Saha of Sukanta Nagar. Both were produced in Siliguri court and sent to five days of police remand.


Police sources revealed that Umesh Kumar Sahni runs a vehicle business in Naxalbari. Sudip Mandal had befriended him under the pretext of purchasing a vehicle. The suspects then lured Umesh to Siliguri, abducted him, and demanded ransom. The police have foiled their plan and are continuing the investigation while searching for other individuals involved.
