Kharibari, 20th September: The Kharibari police have seized 93 cartons of illegal liquor during a naka checking at the Chakkarmari Checkpost along the Bengal-Bihar border in Kharibari. The pickup van used for illegally transporting the liquor has also been taken into custody.
According to police sources, the operation was initiated based on a tip-off received on Thursday when the officials intercepted a pickup van. However, the driver managed to escape when authorities stopped the pickup van. Upon searching the vehicle, the authorities recovered 93 cartons, comprising approximately 837 litres of illegal liquor, with an estimated market value of around ₹5 lakhs.
The police have indicated that certain traders have been engaged in this illicit business. In this regard, Naxalbari SDPO Vinod Bihari Meena stated that frequent operations are being conducted to curb such illegal activities. Furthermore, additional surveillance will be implemented ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja.
