Siliguri, 22nd August: Eight young men and women from Siliguri went for a trip to Kamala Falls. But, their fun trip turned out to be the most horrific day of their lives. However, their life was saved due to the efforts of the police, firefighters, and local people.
Reportedly, the said youths from Siliguri reached Kamala Falls. The rocky mountainous path and crossing the river to reach there is quite tricky and dangerous, especially during the monsoons. Even the administration and the forest department have prohibited people to travel there. Despite, the prohibition, the eight youths still made a trip to Kamala Falls. Unfortunately, the water level suddenly increased in the evening, and thus they were trapped there. This information was given at Sevoke Police Outpost at 7 pm.
Shortly after fire departments and disaster response forces arrived for their rescue. The local youths also came for extending a helping hand to the rescue team. After about 3 hours of walking, the rescue teams crossed the Kalikhola River and reached Kamala Falls. Finally, at 4 o’clock in the morning, 8 young men and women were safely evacuated and reached the Sevoke Outpost. According to police sources, some civic volunteers were injured during the rescue operation.
