Phansidewa, 08th January: A significant smuggling operation involving cannabis was uncovered in Phansidewa. Police raided a parked lorry in the Dhamnagach area along the Ghoshpukur-Fulbari stretch of National Highway 27 and seized 78 kg of cannabis hidden in a secret chamber.
The operation led to the arrest of two individuals, identified as Razzak Mandal and Mofizul Haque, both residents of Tufanganj in Cooch Behar.
According to police sources, the duo was allegedly planning to smuggle the cannabis from Tufanganj to Kolkata. The lorry used in the smuggling attempt has been confiscated as part of the investigation.
The accused were presented in the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday, while Phansidewa police continue to probe the case further.
