Haldibari, 18th February: The 76th Hujur Saheb Mela, organized by the Ekramia Isle Swab Committee of Hujur Sahib, commenced after a flag was hoisted on Tuesday. The fair was inaugurated by the committee President GuddinShin Huzoor Khandaker Afzalul Haque.
The other members of the committee, including the committee secretary Lutfar Rahman, were present during the event.
According to the Haldibari police station, the entire fair premises have been wrapped under CCTV surveillance to strengthen the security system at the fair. A police camp has also been set up. During the fair, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Santosh Limbkar, Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dr. Chandan Das and Mekliganj Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Siddhartha Darjee, 700 constables and women police, 550 volunteers of the fair committee were present. A fire engine and ambulance were kept in the fair premises.
Haldibari police station IC Debashis Basu stated that surveillance is being conducted at the fair premises with the help of drones.
