Siliguri, 25thMarch: The Excise Department has seized 72 boxes (648 liters) of illegal liquor in a major operation on Tuesday morning. 4 smugglers have also been arrested in this case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ankit Kumar Maharaj, Anil Kumar Paswan, Ram Babu Paswan and Arvind Kumar Singh, all residents of Bihar.
As per sources, this operation was carried out in Champasari Mahananda Bridge under Pradhan Nagar. The smugglers were transporting liquor in two vehicles hidden under cabbage.
Upon receiving a tip-off, the special team blocked the Champasari Mahananda Bridge area on Tuesday morning. During this, the officials searched two vehicles, and 72 boxes of illegal liquor were recovered hidden under cabbage. The estimated market value of the seized liquor is Rs 16,20,000.
The Excise Commissioner of Jalpaiguri Division stated that this illegal liquor was being taken from Sikkim to Bihar. All four accused will be presented in Siliguri court.
Currently, the investigation of the case is underway and police are thoroughly investigating to uncover others associated with this gang.
