Siliguri, 29th November: A 7-year-old boy returning home from school with his mother died in a tragic road accident on the Eastern Bypass.
The child, identified as Yashvardhan Prasad, a resident of Aurobindo Pally and a student of a private school on the Eastern Bypass, was heading home after a school programme when a bike collided with their scooty near Baneswar More Traffic Guard. The impact caused him to fall onto the road, where he was run over by an oncoming goods vehicle, leading to his death on the spot.
Police from Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard, Baneswar More Traffic Guard and Ashighar Outpost reached the spot and sent the body to the hospital.
Notably, Siliguri Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar had inaugurated a new traffic office at Baneswar More just a day earlier to curb road accidents in the area.
According to the Traffic ACP, the scooter lost balance after being hit by a bike, causing the child to fall onto the road. He added that more measures would be taken in the coming days to prevent such accidents on the Eastern Bypass. Police have seized the involved vehicles and begun further investigation.
