7 Rohingya, including child, arrested in Siliguri

Siliguri, 29th May: In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police arrested a group of seven Rohingya people, including a child, allegedly en route to Punjab via the NJP Railway Station.

As per the details gathered, the apprehended individuals, comprising four women, three men, and a child, were identified as Zubera Begum, Rehana Akhtar, Ashia Begum, Hasina Begum, Noor Hakim, Saddam Hussain, and Azinur. The arrested group had arrived from a refugee camp in Bangladesh.

It is to be noted that several Rohingyas often illegally migrate from Bangladesh to different parts of the country through the NJP station. However, on Tuesday, the officials intercepted and found the group boarding the Sampark Kranti Express at Badarpur Junction in Assam.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group was travelling to Punjab from Delhi. However, the real intention behind their trip to Punjab remains unclear.
