Siliguri, 24th June: An elderly man (59), has been arrested by Ashighar Police Station on charges of sexually assaulting a minor in Siliguri.
Reports indicate that the minor was left alone at home for a few days while her parents were away for work. During their absence, an elderly man from the neighbourhood allegedly committed the crime. Upon their return, the minor informed her parents about the incident, leading to a formal complaint being filed at Ashighar Police Station on June 12.
The police initiated an investigation and discovered that the accused had absconded. However, based on a tip-off, the police apprehended the suspect from his residence on Sunday.
The accused has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and was presented in Jalpaiguri court on Monday. The investigation into the matter is underway.
