Siliguri, 02nd January: New Year was celebrated peacefully in Siliguri amid tight police security. It is to be noted that, the Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi had made all the preparations for the celebration under the security arrangements.
On December 31 and January 01, one thousand police personnel were deployed for the security of the city. From malls to pubs, bars, and roads, the police maintained strict security. Also, the police took strict action against those who disturbed the festive atmosphere of the new year.
In this regard, Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that the New Year celebration concluded peacefully in Siliguri. No incident of any kind happened. However, during this time 53 people have been arrested for trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere.
At the same time, stern actions have also been taken against the drunk drivers imposing challan for their carelessness. Reportedly, on December 31, 27, and on January 01, 26 people were arrested and presented in court on the charges of assault and disturbance.
