Alipurduar, 07th February: In a recent development, 52 Chital deer were released in Buxa Tiger Reserve to balance the food supply of tigers. On Wednesday, the deer were released in the core area of Rajabhatkhawa forest of Buxa Tiger Reserve, in the presence of the forest department officials.
As per reports, the animals have been brought to Buxa from Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary. In the past three years, hundreds of Chital deer have been released into Buxa forest. The number of Sambar and Barking deer are comparatively more than the number of Chital deer, the favorite food of tigers.
To restore the shortage, the forest department has planned to bring Chital deer from various sanctuaries of the state to Buxa forest.
