Alipurduar, 20th October: Alipurduar Police has intercepted a truck full of liquor which was being smuggled from Assam to Siliguri ahead of Diwali. Along with this, two people have also been arrested. One of them is said to be a resident of Alipurduar and the other a resident of Cooch Behar.
Based on the tip-off, the Alipurduar police conducted a search of a ten-wheeler truck in the Birpara Chowpathy area on Wednesday at midnight. After this, 511 cartons of liquor were recovered during the search. A total of 6,132 bottles of liquor have been recovered from the said cartons whose market price is estimated at Rs 19,74,504.
On failing to provide any valid documents of liquor both men travelling in the truck were arrested by the Alipurduar police. Alipurduar police station IC Anindya Bhattacharya said that the entire matter will be investigated after the arrested people are taken on remand.
