483 grams of brown sugar seized in Siliguri, one peddler arrested

Siliguri, 14th January: A joint operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and plainclothes personnel of Matigara police station foiled a drug peddling attempt in Siliguri, leading to the seizure of 483 grams of brown sugar and the arrest of one accused. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team carried out a late-night operation in the Matigara Bazar area.


During the operation, a suspicious four-wheeler was intercepted and searched. Police recovered a packet containing 483 grams of brown sugar from inside the vehicle, following which the driver was arrested. The arrested peddler has been identified as Govind Roy, 26, a resident of the Simultala area under Matigara police station limits.

According to police sources, the accused had allegedly brought the contraband from Kaliachak in Malda district and was planning to peddle it in Siliguri. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and the accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday. Further investigation is underway.
