Phansidewa, 23rd May: Police in Phansidewa became active following the state government’s directive to curb cattle smuggling and arrested four alleged smugglers along with 32 cattle.
According to information, the cattle were being transported from Bihar to Assam through the Ghoshpukur–Fulbari Bypass stretch of National Highway 27 in Phansidewa. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a truck and rescued 32 cattle from inside the vehicle.
The accused failed to produce valid livestock transport permits, following which four persons, including the driver, were arrested. The arrested individuals are residents of Manipur.
The accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. Police of Phansidewa Police Station have started an investigation to identify others involved in the alleged smuggling network.
