Siliguri, 20th March: The cops of Pradhan Nagar police station have taken 4 people into custody for illegal extraction and smuggling of sand and gravel. Additionally, 8 trucks loaded with sand and stones have also been seized. The arrested accused have been identified as Hiralal Sahni, Sunil Oraon, Bipul Oraon, and Anwar Hussain.
Acting on a tip-off, the police of Pradhan Nagar police station launched a special operation on Wednesday night.
During the operation, the police seized trucks transporting illegal sand and stones from the Mahananda River at Gulma and moving towards Madhya Palash. On Thursday, the accused were presented at Siliguri court.
According to police sources, further investigation regarding the illegal extraction of sand and gravel will continue in the future.
