Siliguri, 11th February: Tragedy befell after the inexplicable death of a woman constable from the Siliguri Metropolitan Police in Ward No. 47 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The deceased policewoman has been identified as Sushmita Mothe (36).
According to information, Sushmita was originally from Darjeeling and had worked as a constable at the Pradhan Nagar police station for seven years. She resided in a rented accommodation with her son in the Pati Colony area under Ward No. 47 of SMC. Reportedly, she was stationed on duty at the Madhyamik Examination Centre. On Saturday, Sushmita had returned home from duty like every other day. However, when her son called for her later in the evening he noticed that the door of her room was locked and she did not respond.
Despite several efforts, when Sushmita did not respond the locals broke open the door of the room and found her lifeless body hanging from the noose. Following this, the matter was immediately informed to the Pradhan Nagar Police Station and the cops arrived at the scene, took the body into custody, and transported it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem. However, the incomprehensible death of the constable has sparked concerns across the city. At present, the case is under further investigation.
