Fulbari, 09th July: Thirty-six houses of the Lal Tong Basti have been swept away by the rising waters of the Teesta River. Reportedly, the local administration members visited the locations during an area inspection.
Among those present were, the Chairman of Jalpaiguri District Council, Krishna Roy Barman, Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, and Rajganj Panchayat Samiti President Rupal Dey Sarkar, along with others.
According to reports, the Teesta River had swelled up due to the incessant rainfall in the mountains and plains in the region. This led to the submergence of homes in Dabgram-I Gram Panchayat’s Lal Tong and Chomko Dangi areas. On Tuesday, officials visited the affected area and provided food supplies to the affected families.
In this regard, MLA Khageswar Roy stated that the families demanded permanent residence in some other location. Following an official discussion, the families will be housed permanently elsewhere.
